how many years upon years have i allowed the violence with my silent retreat letting slide the sticks and stones of words whispered dark and words disparaging my own heart breaks from cowardice
i am brought to the mirror screaming and kicking pleading no i won't look the medusa mask half faced don't make me taste the acid shame dripping from my teeth
i know no grandiose illusion of my own salvation i am a drought of vision wandering desert soul searching for wiser waters to drink and quench this aching with hope
this is strong, Deb! Especially the final stanza, with "quench this aching with hope" - nicely done. I think this one is a definite finalist for the publication opportunity we were recently discussing. I give you two "wow"s for this one.
if i had it to do over again would i? i'm not talking about this life but a life of creating stories of digging deep to the places well hidden of crawling in the dark and ugly spaces of searching in the sunlight until i can't see of laughing until no more tears come out of sitting quietly hour on top of hour until only the hum of my breath moves
word upon word images bleeding into one another colors vibrant and muted nouns and verbs colliding with subjects and one action begets another until
the silence of satisfaction the satisfaction of right order the right order to pull at your heart from mine connect ah
Dot, thanks for your comments on my poem for this day. I really like this one by you, and I hope the answer to the question posed is a resounding, Yes!?
I have a submissions calendar page. These are culled from P&W, Duotrope, CRWOPPS, emails and friends. Feel free to add the Google calendar in its entirety to your calendar or add specific events.

how many years
upon years
have i
allowed the violence
with my silent retreat
letting slide the sticks and stones
of words whispered dark
and words disparaging
my own heart breaks
from cowardice
i am brought to the mirror
screaming and kicking
pleading no
i won't look
the medusa mask
half faced
don't make me taste
the acid shame
dripping
from my teeth
i know no grandiose
illusion
of my own salvation
i am a drought
of vision
wandering desert soul
searching for wiser
waters to drink
and quench this aching
with hope
