Her exposed toes reach and grab at the sand
the grains oozing up between them
the salty water occasionally rushing from the side
to cleanse and cool
as her feet carry her away from the car.

Her eyes gazing at her feet, watching for shells
and sharp objects or shiny rocks
thoughts lost in thoughts
letting the lapping sounds
carry away the hatred and fears
carried daily to her door.

Her voice surfaces and comes out to meet
the wind as her face turns skyward
and she sings to the stars and the gulls
as her steps change rhythm
in response to the waves.

ancient pulse, heartbeat of creation
words form, poetry born
poetry blends with voice
voice, poetry, instrument
song emerges
and i cry

i cry for all the
pleasure
i cry for all the
pain
i cry because i am unable
to put voice
to words in song

some songs
define us human
some songs
weep for the earth
some songs
are our salvation
giving voice
to our souls at work

i cry for all the
pleasure
i cry for all the
pain
i cry because i am unable
to put voice
to words in song
