ephemera
by Deb

in those moments
of wanton want
i know you told yourself
pain
would be transitory
and fade
behind spattered veils

so you pasted
your flesh
on
my
body
confused canvas
hidden

willful artist
how did you choose
which pieces
of love
to tear
and paste
which soul
to slash
and reassemble

your words
soothing
embedded fear
on
my
body
preserved
shame
encaustic heat

Deb - this is wonderful. I love the pieces in the poem reflecting the visual pieces - the emotions are strong - I like your use of repetition, though it's not exact (which I like even better - I'm talking about the 2nd and 4th stanzas). You get a "wow"!

this old house
by dot.

two in this house where there used
to be three or four
I don't remember any more
three or four times you came to me you left
I stayed because I had to
tethered
to the things of us the things we left
for later we left
undone because it wasn't important

and what wasn't important then has no consequence now
done or not are the same
what did the warrior say, that old greek one
i came, i saw, i conquered
I
what is left of we, I did not conquer
I cleaned and cooked and kept and if there were a spare few moments
I wrote
lists of do's and don't's
I wrote
this I will remember because I have to
I

not You
only a piece of you left with me now small
growing, small but present
and you are
where

somewhere I don't know can't find and won't
here
I have a place and I wait
one day
maybe
you'll be back a fifth time a sixth
and maybe
I'll be here
or not.
